Main religion for Lawsons?
« on: Sunday 21 January 07 01:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi

My Lawson relatives came to Whitehaven around 1828.  They were a large family, both parents born in the Isle of Man - Richard Lawson, and until I check for sure - Margaret Quayle.  They had a large family, but I can't seem to find any baptisms in any of our local baptism registers.  I've only found 3, the grandchildren, all after 1856 in the area they were living.

I have already visited Brian Lawsons site many times, and I realise they won't all be the same religion.  But the majority would do for me, to give me a clue as to where to look next.  I have a couple of births that are on the censuses, and no birth recorded.  And one of the baptisms I found today isn't recorded with the GRO even though it was 1867.

There are numerous religious registers I haven't tried yet, but it would save me time if I had an idea to start with.

Rosemary

My Lawson line in the I-O-M goes back to 1585,& is the northern branch(Lonan),but I have details of the others as well.I havent,as yet, found any of them who were other than C of E or methodists. If he was born here,it is most likely he is a decendant of James Lawson 1585- 1634 & Isabel Cowle. ;)
