Hello

Three years ago i purchased a CD with the burial information from a gentleman who has researched the church records.

I will PM you with his contact details.

The CD list three Limming burials

Esau 15/5/1855, aged 6 s on John + Jane
Jane 9/4/1864 aged 49, wife of John
John 9/2/1851 aged 36 husband of Jane

The CD has a spreadsheet with the information and then links from the spreadsheet to photographs of graves, MI and copy of original entry in the burial register.

Hope this helps

Jane 9/4/1864 aged 49, wife of John

Oddly, this one comes up as Jane WATSON on the NBI (and on FreeBMD). ???

And on 1861 census too (probably).

Hi Geoff

Just checked again and the spreadsheet is as my previous post. I have followed the link to the MI and the photo of the stone (both on the CD) and all of the names on my post are on the same gravestone.

So we have the first name John Limming and then it says....

"Also Jane wife of the above who died April 9th 1864 aged 49 years.
Also Esau son of the above who died May 15th 1855 in the 6th year of his age.
Also Rose Emma daughter of Thomas and Charlotte Boyer who died March 18th 1877 aged 5 months"

John and Jane Limming (Nee Scotney) had a daughter Charlotte and therefore I can only assume that Rose Emma is their Grandaughter. This ties in with my previous research on the Scotney Family for a friend.

The only explanation I can think of, if the NBI is correct, is that she remarried after John's death in 1851.

On the 1851 census Jane is a Limming and living in Tallington as a widow / Pauper.

I'm still trying to find her on the 1861 but certainly she's not easily found under the Limming name.

Hi Geoff

I have checked further and also on the CD is a copy of a book listing all of the Tallington burials made by one of the Church Wardens in 2002.

As you suggest there is an entry for the burial of Jane Watson on May 4th 1864 aged 49.
Not quite sure why such a long period between the death and burial but I agree with you that this is probably the same person.

Checking the BMD we find a Jane Limming marrying a William Watson. Without ordering the certificate to be sure that we have the same person I would suggest that we have found her.

If we look at the 1861 census of Tallington we find William and Jane Watson. Jane is the correct age to be Jane Limming.

In 1871 William Watson was still alive in Tallington and a widower.

.... the evidence would point to the fact that the said Jane Limming wife of John Limming re-married in 1855, died in 1864 and then was buried with the first husband.

I think that a lesson could be learned by me and the transcriber of the CD, not to assume that a husband and wife on the same MI share the same surname.

What a facinating set of circumstances.
