Have you found the actual marriage record of Thomas and Emma?  just in case they did not go through with it.

I see it in the online index for 1848.  It says she was born 1824.

MMMN  interestingly  cannot find  a  marriage  in  South  Australia  for  Thomas  Payne  and Bridget Egan  or  any  children

How do you know that it is your Thomas who married Emma Cato?

That SA marriage entry shows him to be 28 - when the other shows him to be only 22 a few years earlier.  It also says that he is single.

Just curious?  the name is reasonably common.
