Hanley, Kirkcaldy, Fife
« on: Sunday 28 January 07 10:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for a family that lived in Kirkcaldy, Fife in 1851 and possibly 1861.  The father was John Hanley, occ Commercial Traveller, and daughter was Mary Ann Hanley.  I believe she was born in about 1849/50.  Mary says she was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland.  However, I cannot trace them on either census in Scotland or England.   I have Mary on the 1871 Census in Portsea, England so I know that she at least moved to England.  I have her marriage in Portsea to John Hughes, bootmaker.   But, I  don't have her birth regn and do not know anything else about her family or origins in Scotland. No trace anywhere.    Any help greatly appreciated.  Thanks. Juniper

Hi Gadget,
Great stuff.     Have not picked that up before.  Yes, could be them.  A  "commercial traveller" is a posh name for "hawker".  And Lincoln!!     I must have missed them on SP somehow.  Wonder where the father is.     Will see if they show up on the 1841 in Lincoln and on the 1861 in Scotland.  Thanks for your kind help.  Juniper

It might be worth you looking/posting on the Travellers board. It's a possibility that someone may recognise them.

Hi Gadget,
Thanks for your suggestion.   I have just put a post on the Travellers Board.   Still no luck elsewhere.  Will keep searching.  Regards, Juniper
