« on: Monday 29 January 07 14:00 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with this uniform. There is writing on the back but the reverse is black and only a couple of lines are visible.
Tunic - Blue
Collar - Red

Sorry thats all I have to go on. Thankyou.

Are you sure about the uniform colours?

If they were the other way round, I would say he was in the Grenadier Guards, who have a red tunic and blue collar. The collar badge is the same.

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong. ;)

I am sorry but my emails are not working.

Thankyou Arfur for your reply. Yes, that is what it says on the back. It is hand written with dark coloured ink on a black background. Unfortunately time has taken it's toll and the rest is a blur.

From the blue tunic and red collar I'd guess Royal Artillery.

Here's an example:

And there are others on that site!

Thankyou Neil, I have looked at the site for a gunner and he must be in full dress uniform as it states there were more buttons on the tunic. I wish I could make out the badges on the collar but I'm afraid thats not possible but they do look similar. Mags

Mags,
The collar badges are the flaming grenade style badges typical of the Artillery.

I'm pretty sure he's RA!  ;D

Does he have a name?
What do you know about him?

All I know is that the photo was in my parents collection. He has a very strong resemblance to my late father. Whitham family of Yorkshire.
My father had one brother killed in WW1, he was in the Duke of Wellingtons(West Riding Regmt) and I had a photo restored of him the other day on Roots.
That is all I can tell you, I was hoping to get an idea of regiment then try searches for any personnel. Mags

Just a thought, but why not try scanning the reverse at a high resolution?
There may be people on here or on the Photo Restoration board who can do something with it and decipher the rest of the writing.
