Hi Peter

According to his Medal Index Card he was

13417 Serjeant in the South Lancashire Regiment, later 389023 Serjeant in Labour Corps, so he could have been wounded at some point  ???

edit

sorry mis-read Wendi's post

Description
Medal card of Corbett, Frank
Corps   Regiment No   Rank
South Lancashire Regiment    13417    Serjeant
Labour Corps    389023    Serjeant
Date    1914-1920

The labour corps was formed in 1917, he could have been transferred if his fitness level had been downgraded,  due to wounds (as Wendi says) or sickness or perhaps the need for experienced NCO's

Hello Peter and welcome to rootschat,

With regards to the Labour Corps connection if you ask Ivor Lee at http://www.geocities.com/labour_corps for assistance he maybe able to say roughly when your rellie went into the corps. Give him as much as you can in the way of information name, rank regiments and service number(s). If you scroll to the bottom of the page for the site above it has Ivor's e-mail addy.
