I couldn't agree more, and I was apalled when she was telling me this. And the scary thing is, she had forgotten she did it and said, "Oh, yeah, I guess I shoudl fix that."  :( And she had someone else added for parents of another person and couldn't for the life of her figure out where she got the names.

That's the problem Kath, with the law of averages (whatever that is!) I bet more people would contact her taking information than able to give it.

Kerry,

Isn't that the truth. I tried to explain that, but ...

Sligo: Davey (also Mayo), McCluskey, McNulty
Wexford and Staffordshire: Hayes, McClean
Galway and Staffordshire: Scott
Coventry: Wells, Collins, Palmer, Moody, Beck, Mickelwright, Husbands
Ireland: McNulty (Sligo), Kealy, Murphy (Carlow) Connolly, Gillen, Powell, Ryan, Moore, Martin

and so these trees with this duff information is being populated across the web!  I really don't want my information on One World Tree then be connected with duff information.

I have had some hard searches for some of the info I've come up with and it's precious to me.  I know all the stuff about not owning my lot, they belong to others as well, but I would like, in the future, others to be able to use the truths I have found.

There has been much discussion of this on these boards and also those at Ancestry etc.

One World Tree is data from 2004 and then matches using software added to them.  It is useless unless you want a lot of spurious ancestors linked to your tree.  There are better and safer ways of finding others researching your lines.

Do not go near OWT!  Personally I do not have any online trees (FTM and ANcestry) as I have common names and people were making links which had nothing to do with my characters.

Once I have all my sources cleaned up I may well post somewhere safer than these.

i've simply got my direct line from my 4 grandparents on my webspace and any genuine contacts get a copy of a report from my Family Historian software of the appropriate bit of the family.

Much better from my point of view and they also get all my sources.

Kerry,

That makes a lot of sense.  I'm going to think about doing that.
