william parven, where art thou?
« on: Wednesday 31 January 07 09:16 GMT (UK) »
would some kind soul please help me out with william sedgeworth parven.

i found him on the 1861 english census living with his uncle.

william moved to scotland and married and died in scotland but it is his roots that i am trying to find.

his parents are listed as john and margaret bradwell, they seem to have died when william was young.

any info that anyone can offer regarding this post would be greatly appreciated.

1861 census; houghton-le spring, durham

john bradwell...head...age 28...coalminer
bridget...wife...age 21...born ireland
margaret...dau...age 3
catherine...dau...age 1
john g...son...age 2 months
william parven...lodger...age 14...coalminer...born shildon, durham

all born houghton-le spring unless stated otherwise

Joe

Here's a possibility in 1851, although the age doesn't tie up:

HO107/2388/ Folio 439/ Pages 20 & 21
Thornley, Wolsingham (Weardale),

George Parvin, Head, M, over 20, Coal Miner, birthplace unknown
Ann Parvin, Wife, M, 30, birthplace unknown, Durham
John Parvin, Son, 7, birthplace unknown, Durham
Elizabeth Parvin, Daughter, 10, birthplace unknown, Durham
William Parvin, Son, 2, birthplace unknown, Durham

Found on FreeBMD:

William Sigsworth Parvin, born 2nd quarter 1848, Auckland 24, 12.

The birthplace of Shildon given in 1861 was in the Auckland Registration District.

fantastic jennifer!!

well done, there is every chance that he is with some member of hid family rather than his parents, as i think they died when he was young.

so george may be the brother of john, i am also assuming that since i have looked at quite a few possibilities that william's father was a coal miner also.

Well done on finding that birth entry for William, certainly our man  :) Given the ages of John Bradwell and William in the 1861 census posted by Joe, relationship could be that of cousins rather than uncle/nephew?

This looks to be John Bradwell and family in 1841:

Isabella, 40, washerwoman
John, 9
Elizabeth, 5

Address: Houghton Le Spring, Durham. All born in the county.

The three are also in Houghton Le Spring in 1851, lodging with a Watson family.

Regards.

To help find William b. 1848's family in the 1841/51, this might help. From Free bmd, these are all the Parv*ns births in Auckland parish:

Births Jun 1840
Parvin    John Bradwell   @ Auckland  24/1

Births Dec 1845
PARVIN    David    @ Auckland 24/9

Births Jun 1847
Parvin    William @ Auckland 24/8

Births Jun 1848
Parvin    William Sigsworth @ Auckland 24/12

Births Jun 1850
Parvin    John     @ Auckland    24/14

Monica
