Can I obtain a marriage certificate for the year 1815 and if so how?

Hi Betty,

See this from the Beginners Board, may help to explain about pre-1837
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,54385.0.html

Before 1837 you need to search Parish records, you can get copies of entries in the church registers from local libraries, record offices and family record centres

Hi Betty,

One thing you could try is a look up request on the East Riding of Yorkshire board. Sometimes you might be lucky and someone who is visiting will check the record for you.

I'm not too sure but I think Pocklington Parish Records may be held at the county archives in Beverley. If this isn't right someone will hopefully correct me.

Sorry I can't be of anymore help .. ..

Pocklington is on the IGI for that time frame so your first step is to look at www.familysearch.org and see if you can find the record you want on the IGI.     According to my ancient copy of Phillimore the original registers are at the Borthwick Institue in York but that may have changed.
The record will not give much more details than you see on the IGI but it is always thrilling to see if your ancestors signed or made their mark and who the witnesses were etc. and if you can search the whole film you will find other entries for burials etc that help to flesh out the family picture.

Hi Andrea,

Problem with the IGI - Pocklington records from 1716 to 1813 are missing, and unfortunately these are the dates I think Betty is interested in.

Ah.   I saw that they were on for 1813 - 56 and thought she might be lucky.
