Allister/Alex
« on: Tuesday 06 February 07 22:04 GMT (UK) »
My grandfather was Allister, but he shows up in a directory as Alex. My husband says Alex is a common nickname for Allister...anyone else heard that?

Cheers,

always thought alex was short for alexander and ali for allister,

tweo reasons, one the enumerator did not understand what name was given ( accents), or he was just known as Alex

Apparently they can be interchangeable!

See this site:

Never knew that before and I know a fair number of people of both names - none of them known by the other name.  :-\
