This is a bit of a long shot - but nothing ventured and all that.
An ancestor of mine was sentenced to manslaugher and transported to Australia I was hoping to find him on the 1861 Census at Portland Gaol. I know the ship (Lincelles) he arrived in Perth, Australia on, left Portland on the 5th October 1861 (ie after the 1861 Census was recorded) and I am ASSUMING he would have been in the Portland gaol waiting his transportation. The name of the person I am looking for is:
Wiliam Markham, born Grasby, Lincolnshire in October 1835.
Any help gratefully received.
Many thanks
