Mavor
« on: Saturday 10 February 07 13:51 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone researching the Mavor family from Dysart? I have quite a lot of information and would be interested in hearing from fellow Mavor descendants. Also anyone who knows of a link between the Dysart Mavors and those in the north east of Scotland.

Thanks Joe, yes there are a lot of Mavors and all the Dysart ones are part of one big family apparently! A lot of unravelling to do, and I'm looking forward to working back to pre 1855. The only other Mavors I'm aware of are from the north east of Scotland, and a few in Edinburgh and Glasgow. I'm curious to find out if they are linked from way back.

Help would be great! Haven't got the tree in GEDCOM, its all on paper at the moment so whats the easiest way to share information? I could begin by giving you my starting point; George Mavor married Isabella Currie in 1795 in Dysart, they had (at least) 6 children, one of whom was David Mavor (my G-G-G grandfather, born 1807. He married Rachel Mitchell. I would be interested in the 1841 census to fill in some gaps, and would like to know more about George and Isabella. Thanks for your interest Joe, looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello 'oldbear',

I wonder whether you have searched on the Fife FHS site at
http://www.fifefhs.org/

If not, a search for MAVOR (and also the alternative spellings MAVER and MAVOUR) brings up quite a few hits including, in interments at Dysart St Denis, the following:
"CURRER, ISBEL: sp of George Maver, mason, Dysart; 7 July 1819"

Apologies if you've already done so.

JAP

Thanks for that JAP, I have had a look around the FFHS site and got a list of St Denis interments but not that one! I appreciate you taking the time to look it up and I'll try the alternative spellings.

now for the dundee connection, i think your george senior (david's father) was born 24/2/1764 dysart, he was the son of robert, and there seems to be a robert living in dundee, which i assume is the brother of george.
