Edwin LANE in 1861 and 1871 - in Leigh?
« on: Saturday 10 February 07 17:13 GMT (UK) »
I dont have the facilities to look for my ggrandfather Edwin LANE in 1861 or 1871, and would appreciate a look-up please.

Edwin was baptised on the 6th February 1838 in Leigh. In 1851 Edwin was living at home in Leigh with his father Elijah and mother Harriot nee WAYGOOD.

He married Elizabeth WOODROW [sic] on 23rd August 1864. He was a carpenter. Edwin and Elizabeth married in Ringwood, Hampshire - her home town, but I was wondering where he was in 1861 - only three years before he married. Did they perhaps meet in a market town?

Any help gratefully received!

That is most intruiging! May I ask you if Edwin is enumerated as a lodger, or what? as far as I know we never had any relations called LUKE.

Don't suppose I'll ever find out how he met Elizabeth AYLES/WOODROW/CUTLER
Yes, thankyou, I have Edwin and Elizabeth in the 1871 census, by which time Edwin had long left home. The Fanny enumerated is my grandmother.
I'm trying to attach a photo of Edwin c 1864 - but can't do it, sorry!

Many thanks!

Viv

Tati,

Just to explain: the 1871 look-up of Edwin and family was sent to me by Arthur Charles LANE's granddaughter.

Thankyou again for your help.

Viv

Tati,

Thanks very much. Can't help but wonder what four young and unattached men would get up to in their time off!
