Can you give some info as to her parents/siblings etc in case she is living with them in 1861.

Do you know if & when she married?

Hey the only one that seems to fit in the 1861 census is a Mary Ann Roll born 1842 Hindringham, Norfolk. She is working as a domestic servant for the Bradfield family at Vine Park Farm, Great Snoring, Norfolk.
Cousins (all variations) from Crowfield/Stonham Aspal/Elmsett/Pettaugh. Chapman from Worlingworth/Hornham/Dennington. Westrup from Bungay/Hales/Haddiscoe Sawyer from Woodbridge/Ipswich/Martlesham/Aldeburgh. Bruty from Clare

Hi
thanks for replying and taking the time searching  :)

I have just received a marriage certificate which shows Mary Ann Roll marriage to James Brown on 26 July 1864 in Great Yarmouth both are shown as living in Pier Place.

Mary Ann’s father is John Roll (occupation Butcher)
witnesses are John Kelly Roll and Elizabeth Thain

I have a Mary Ann Roll on the 1851 census and she is shown as

Daniel Roll HM 62 innkeeper Walcot
Phoebe        WM 60                Blundeston
Phoebe         DU 27                 Thrigby
Mary Ann   niece U 9              Yarmouth
( I wonder if it should be granddaughter rather than niece!)
Address High Rd, Gorleston   HO/107 1805 f644 pg10

The Mary Ann Roll you have Joanne is in Thursford in 1851, so I think there must be another one somewhere

I also have a birth from FreeBMD
Mary Ann Roll Jun 1842 Mutford 13 453 which makes me think (a dangerous thing to do) that she may have been born in Gorleston.

many thanks
yokel

Hi

The Mary Ann b Hindringham had a father called William which lets her out.  If you are considering sending for the 1842 birth cert I would err on the cautious side and stipulate that you only want it if her father was John.  If it's the wrong one - they will only charge you a search fee of £4
