Looking for Anthony Gillespie
« on: Saturday 10 February 07 18:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi, i have posted on the Warwickshire thread but seeing as he is also in Middlesbrough thought i should try here too.

Anthony married Jane Waters 1866 Whitby.
Anthony b.1843 Birmingham
Jane b.1847 Whitby.
They had 5 children that i know of:
Sarah Jane R b.1867 Whitby
Mary Adelaide b.1873 Middlesbrough
Thomas H b. 1875 Middlesbrough
John Alfred b.1876 Middlesbrough
Emmeline Maud b.1885 Middlesbrough (My gt gt Grandmother)

I managed to find them in 1881,1891 and 1901 in Middlesbrough but am unable to trace them before this.
Anthony was a sailor in 1881 so am assuming he was away at sea in the 1891 census as Jane is showing as the head of the family.

Jane died before the 1901 census took place possibly 1898, there is a record on the FreeBMD that matches her age.

I cant find Anthony's birth on the FreeBMD or any sign of him on the Latter Day Saints site.
I tried looking on the Ancestry birth records but they don't seem to have him there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Carol

Hi DS, thanks for that.
I never thought to try that spelling.

I am assuming he must have been away too, that would explain the age differences in the children.I think i was just lucky to catch him home in 1881.

Will be ordering his marriage certificate next month am a little over budget this month.

Thanks again.

Carol

Hi Rambler, i saw that one but was put off by the fact he was born in Birmingham and Derby is quite a distant away.

Thanks anyway  ;)
