Banks family of Carsington???
« on: Monday 12 February 07 12:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am stuck on this Banks family who resided in Carsington in the early 1800's.

There are a couple of things which need clearing up and I was wondering if someone who happened to be in the area, or is planning to be in the area, could look up, if possible, some information.

Firstly, although there are several Banks family members births/christenings registered in the late 1700's and early 1800's a particular James Banks (Bankes?) is missing.  He was born around 1793 presumably in Carsington where he lived later in life (his children were born there etc etc).  His parents I believe were William and Ann (Bridges) Banks.  He had a brother John Banks who I am pretty certain lived in Brassington at some stage.  Also, James marriages were both (from memory, but don't quote me on this :D ) recorded in Carsington as were the births of his children.  All his known siblings as well.

Of course, I am assuming that they are his family.  I think he died before the 1841census as his son John, and widow Elizabeth (second wife, first was Ann nee Jowet) were living in Brassington.  John's occupation was Cordwainer.  John later married Sarah Gould.  John was born about 1820.

Regards, Christine.

Hi,

I have managed to find James in 1777 in Kirk Ireton, at least I think it's him.  With parents being James Banks and Ann Buxton.
