European research

Does anyone know of a site like this which covers France or Germany? The records seen to be held locally, and I am having difficulty when I do not know WHERE someone was born.

I am pretty sure, at least for Germany, the Mormon church has some pretty good records. I have to work on my German and Alsatian sides yet, but know that they have some great resources.

LDS records for Germany are patchy. My grandmother's grandmother's family records are in LDS records but her husband's family are not (he only lived a few miles away) and I know the records exist. My grandmother's mother's family live farther away and there's no sign of any of her family on LDS but I also have copies of their records.
Some shipping lists for Germany available, I think, but my family all seem to have travelled in and out of Antwerp for some reason.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Isn't that funny how that happens. i know the little research that I have done there so far through the LDS has been successful. I guess I just got lucky.  :)

oh my, Lydart, you have made my day. That would be incredible for me. They had some immigration records available recently, but it was just 3 or 4 years too late for me. I will have to look into that.

I hope I'm right, for your sake !    I suppose they might be in German, and that you would have to pay extra for them ?  Like on a world subscription, rather than the cheaper UK one I have which covers my needs ?

Thanks all,
Yes I know the LDS site has some records, and German BMD would be really useful! But there seems to be no site like this one, with such good lookup and feedback at a local level?
