IGI and VRI

Could any one tell me what is the difference between the IGI and the vital records index. iam interested because some info was found on the VRI that was not on the IGI. What is the VRI please and is it useful? Holden

Hi,

This is another useful site that actually breaks down the records for each county into towns and churches - just click on the numbers for the relevant county. It then opens up in adobe acrobat.

One advantage of the BRVI is that it mostly, but not always,  shows the fathers names on marriages after 1837.

If you are researching in Cornwall, Devon, Kent, Warwickshire or Wiltshire the Research Planning Aids are really useful.  They list the coverage for each parish of the IGI, BVRI, Boyd's & Pallot's marriage indexes and the NBI.
