Quebec 1891
« on: Wednesday 14 February 07 22:06 GMT (UK) »
Could sks with the 1891 please have a look for an elusive ancestor of mine:

George MOORE, born 1843 or 1846 in NS or NB. Tinsmith.
Wife either Mary born 1845 in England, OR Isabella born 1845 in NS or NB
Children:
Frank born 1877 Quebec
Lena born 1884 Quebec
Crayton born 1887 Quebec
Allister born 1891 Quebec

In 1881 they were located in Montreal, Ste Gabriel district, Hochelaga subdistrict.

In 1901 they were in Montreal, Maisonneuve district, Delorimier subdistrict.

I found no listing for George in the Montreal Lovell's directory between 1879 and 1900, so between those two censuses they could have been anywhere, I suppose <sigh>... These people are confusing the heck out of me :P

Any help much appreciated,
China

Hi China,

I'm not sure where you are in the world, but you can order the microfilm from Archives Canada to your local library.  I have done it in the past, dosn't take too long.

Hi Karen, I'm in Minnesota. The loan period is 8 weeks according to their policy. Thanks, I'll look into it next week when I have a bit of time.

Cheers,

Yes, I've been reading some of the archives...seems there was a plentiful supply of Moores in NB and a fair number of them were tinsmiths. Lotsa tin cups, plates, boxes and lamps in those days :D
