George Draper
« on: Thursday 15 February 07 14:18 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me to findthe death of George Draper. It is the only gap in my records of him.
In the 1901c he was dwelling in Southwell/Caythorpe Notts Main St as lodger 62years of age occupation F.W.K (Frame work knitter).
This is all correct info, the only thing missing is his death. I have found numerous George Drapers 1901-1912 but all are the wrong ones.
I am getting frustrated with this & at 82yrs  have probably not a lot of time time left?
Help Please

Hi

I have checked the completee England & Wales Death Index 1901 - 1920. The only possibility is:

Oct - Dec 1920 age 83, Basford, 7b 155.

The age is very slightly out. Do you have an accurate birth certificate?

Other thoughts are:

1. He lived even later than this.
2. His first name was not George and so the death was registered under a different first name.
3. He moved from Nottinghamshire. Caythorpe is not too far from Lincolnshire though confusingly there is another Caythorpe in Lincs. I do realise that the Caythorpe you are speaking of is the one in Notts near Lowdham as I have relatives in the same timeframe on Main Street.

Caythorpe comes under Southwell registration district. The one I have quoted is for Nottingham district but he may have died in the hospital or moved to a workhouse etc. There were no deaths of a George Draper in Southwell District between 1901 and 1920 of any age whatsoever.

If you do not get any more replies post again or PM me and I will investigate further.

Thanks Jane it would seem that this is the George I am looking for . He was born in Long Whatton Leicester in 1838. This would tie in age wise one year either way is as near as you will get.
He lead a troubled life, Married twice & both died  within a few years, only one child in marriage Martha born 1871, lived with another paramour & had two children by her Thomas & Owen. He left them & took Martha with him. Martha later married.
Thomas married under the name of Draper in 1904 & on the certificate he had recorded farther as deceased ?
Maybe he did not try to find him.
I will send for the death cert & see if it is the correct one & will let you know the outcome.
Thanks again

Hi Ken

What a shame. Do you know who Martha married and where she lived? Could he have lived with them? I don't think you actually know where he was living when he died, if you see what I mean.

If he was still in Caythorpe and C of E the parishes would be Lowdham or Gunthorpe. I may be going to the archives soo so I will have a quick look. The other thing is lots of FWKs were 'chapel' so they won't appear in C of E registers.

If he died in Nottinghamshire we will find it.

Hi

Have you looked for his death in Derbyshire and Leicestershire? Maybe worth posting on those boards too.
