The Gilogley Family
« on: Thursday 15 February 07 14:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I was hoping someone knew some information regarding the Gilogley family that have been found in paisley and seem to have immigrated from ireland.

So far I know these names:

Jane Wallace Gilogley
b.  8/9/1901
m. 30/4/1920
d.  15/2/1976

Joseph Gilogley
b. 3/6/1874

James Gilogley
b. ~ 1853
m. 24/11/1875

Terrence Gilogley
b. ~ 1818
d. 26/2/1878

Owen Gilogley

I hope someone can help me trace other ancestors and I would gladly help others with information if I can.

Regards,

Alan

Hello Alan,

I've posted the reply below on the Renfrewshire board. BTW the two links in the above message go to the Renfrewshire board.

The Tyrone board link ... www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,214691.0.html

The Milton family link ... http://tiny.cc/vpW8E

I wonder if Gallogly is an alternative spelling for Gilogley.

The 1852 directory of Belfast and the Province of Ulster lists ...

Belfast
Rev John Gallogly, 97, Donegall Street
Co. Fermanagh
Thomas Gallogly, boot and shoemaker, Darling Street, Enniskillen.

Alan- I'm a bit confused about what you are looking for regarding the information you've posted.
IGI shows that Joseph Gilogley was born 3 June 1874 in Bridgeton, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland (parents James Gilogley & Jane Wallace) not Ireland. If you are having trouble finding his birth certificate try searching under mother's maiden name (Wallace) as it seems parents didn't marry until he was 18 months old.
Also, James Gilogley married 24 Nov.1875 at Blythswood, Glasgow to Jane Wallace.
There might be other records in IGI on this family which you can check at www.familysearch.org.
Looking at your previous posts it looks like you have already been given much information on the family.
If you are now trying to trace the family in Ireland you will need to know their religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland) in order to look for church records (if they still exist). Suggest you extract all birth, death, marriage and census information from Scottish records and then let us know exactly what you are hoping to find now.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hello Alan,

If you'll accept Gillogley rather than Gilogley then Griffith's Valuation extracts show that the only families in Ireland bearing this name were in Co. Leitrim when the Valuation took place in the county in 1856.

Michael, Drumshanbo North, Cloone
Margaret, Drumshanbo North, Cloone
Michael, Lisgillock Glebe, Cloone
Patrick, Lisgillock Glebe, Cloone
Phelim, Drumshanbo North, Cloone
Peter, Drumshanbo North, Cloone
Margaret, Cornulla, Cloone
Loughlin, Drumshanbo North, Cloone
Bridget, Drumshanbo North, Cloone
Bernard, Drumshanbo North, Cloone
Felix, Drumshanbo North, Cloone
Francis, Lisgillock Glebe, Cloone
James, Drumshanbo North, Cloone
James, Drumhallagh, Cloone
Anne, Drumshanbo North, Cloone

Hi Christopher,

Thats really interesting. Thanks. So does that mean that this list were they only gilogleys/gillogleys about in 1856 throughout the whole of ireland? Is there any way of view the Griffiths Valuation?

Al
