Stritzko - Anyone out there with info?
« on: Friday 16 February 07 14:53 GMT (UK) »
We have a Priscilla Battley who married Joseph Anthony Vincent STRITZKO born c1847 married c1873 - first son Charles born 1875 at Kennington, London
two more children followed and then Priscilla is a widow and remarrying by 1887.
However, we have not been able to find BMD records/certificates or census records for our Joseph Stritzko - anyone any ideas or is it that the site I'm using to search on isn't complete?
All thoughts help gratefully received.

No, I don't see them either (until Charles in 1901 as a married man).

There was a famous family of musical publishers in Vienna called Stritzko - perhaps the family spent time overseas and Joseph didn't die in England?  What does his marriage certificate say about Joseph's profession and the name of his father?

Anna

Modified: reading through again I gather you don't have a marriage certificate for them.  What is your source for the full name and age of Joseph and the marriage date?

I see that Charles' sister married a German national, Louis Seel.  I would think that your answer is likely to lie in a German or Austrian connection.

Hello DJ

That's a FreeBMD one - go to www.freebmd dot org dot uk and search for Stritzko - all types, all dates (such a rare name!) and you'll find the children's births and marriages and Priscilla's remarriage come up with no trouble at all.

Then the 1901 census ref. for Louis Seel and his wife "Emila" (she's variously Ersinia, Emelia and Emila in the records) is RG13/146 folio 10 p11, which shows him to be a German-born foreign subject.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Anna,
It's certainly a start.  I'd still love to find Priscilla's marriage to J Stritzko presumably it must have been abroad somewhere.
Do you have any idea on how we search for BMD's in Europe please?

Anna,
Just saw you on another thread (Beginners) ask if they'd checked for wills - sorry to ask such basic questions but how/where would one do that?

Don't apologise for asking any question!  We all learn lots from Rootschat.

Post-1858 wills are held by the Court of Probate; full probate calendars can be searched at the Probate Search Room, First Avenue House, 42-49 High Holborn, London WC1V 6NP (tel: 020 7947 6000).

Many, but by no means all, earlier wills are kept at the National Archives and can be searched and purchased online for £3.50 a time.

See http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/wills.asp?homepage=fr-wills for more detail.

Hope that helps!
