Requesting BMD Certs from the States
« on: Sunday 18 February 07 16:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Has anybody tried to order BMD certs from USA? I am trying to trace family over there but dont really know how to go about it.

I have had a quick look on the Department of Health web site and ordering copies of BMD does not look as easy as here in the UK.

I am looking for the following:

Births 1913-1918 Pennsylvania
Deaths after 1920 Pennsylvania
Marriages after 1930 Pennsylvania
Deaths 1995 Maryland

All help would be very welcome.

I too am confused about this.

But I think that the BMDs are held by states, and you have to go through them.
BENNET(T); NRY- Brotton, CON
BURTON; NRY- Saltburn, Guisborough, Marske, Stokesley
Judge Newark Lincoln BURTON , USA
DALES; NRY- Brotton, LIN - Orby
DAVIES
GEORGE: GLA - Oystermouth & Penarth, CON
LINCOLN. Middlesbrough, NRY, Durham
PERRETT Gloucestershire
QUESTED London. Assisting with One-name Study.
TRASK; GLA - Cardiff, Barry etc, SOM - South Petherton

Yes it seems that each state in the US has different rules, I can see that I am going to have trouble obtaining these certs.

Log on to:  genealogy.about.com/od/vital_records/p/pennsylvania.htm
for information about accessing Pennsyvanian births, deaths and marriages.  Not too sure about Maryland deaths.  I believe that they are only available up to 1991 for Maryland's 23 counties, and up to 1994 for Baltimore City.  However, try Googling 'Maryland Deaths'.
