1847 PO Directory has Col Knollys in Peppard. Near to Reading.

If this is John Weldale the he may well be abroad for the other censuses.  A check of the Army List could be interesting.

Do you have the marriage entry in 1847 from Times Edward Saunders to Caroline dau of John Weldale Knollys? If not ill post it.

Also on Old Bailey site .John Weldale Knollys Esq living in Uxbridge is a witness in the case of William Mattingly for theft on 2nd Dec 1818.

Thanks for your reply Welsh Lady, yes, I do have the marriage and Old Bailey info, just wish I could find John Weldale Knollys' parents, haven't a clue who they were, he and his family moved about quite a bit, eldest daughter Emma Susan b. Uxbridge, was baptised in Calais France when she was about 10, they were also in Wales, as well as Uxbridge, Reading, Gloucestshire, that's all I can find out about him. Thanks for your efforts. did a quick Google search on John Weldale Knollys - there seems to be lots of references to the family - did you know that there are roads named after both Weldale and Knollys in Reading?  I wonder ........

Hi

I did find this on his marriage to Ann

Northampton Mercury aug 29th 1812
Lately, at St.Alban's Herts, J.W.Knollys, Esq. of South Ville, to Miss A.S.Lowe, of St.Alban's.

It doesn't look as though he was in the army as he is called esquire at his wedding,  I wonder if the fact it was in the Northampton paper means he was living there at the time,  I can't track down where South Ville might be at all

(I think that directory reference would be to Col later General W T Knollys )
