Could someone help me identify this
« on: Wednesday 21 February 07 13:43 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please help identify this Crest or Coat of Arms or point me in the right direction. Have tried some of the internet Heraldry sites, but they all want to sell something, rather than give advice !

Any help, as always, appreciated.

I found this rather charming site, which enables the novice to describe heraldic devices:

http://www.yourchildlearns.com/heraldrygame/gamehelp.htm

There is also a drawing program free to download - just trying it now!

Will try to apply the new knowledge to your benefit!

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

See http://www.digiserve.com/heraldry/ and http://www.digiserve.com/heraldry/pimbley.htm

There are two scallop shells Escallop - (es-kol'-up) The figure of a scallop shell. THis was originally worn to signify that the wearer had made a pilgrimage to the shrine of St. James, Compostella, Spain. Later on it was placed on the shield to show that the bearer or an ancestor had been a Crusader or had made a long pilgrimage.

I think we need some clues!

Where when etc?

I tried your only "T" name  - Tutin - and it is not that apparently

There is nothing in the coat of arms which I can recognise.  Can you help please.

Where did you find these arms?  Even the country might help. Have you seen them elsewhere with a crest?
If so what was the crest?

Do you know what the motto says?  This is possibly your best chance but I can't read it.

Not sure if this will help at all - I took out the colour and made the picture negative as well.  Could the middle word be "VIRUM"?  I'm not a Latin scholar, so I have no idea!  ;D
