I am trying to find details for John Hodgkinson,

I know he was married in 1922 to Priscilla Williamson(8d Pge619), aged 38, nd his father was a spring smith called Samuel, in Manchester, lancashire

I think I have found him in the 1901 and 1891 census(RG12/33245 Folio 70 Pge 28, but he appears to have been born 6 years earlier than I thought, I am going by area, samuel and his trade (Spring smith/iron spring maker etc), and I have found he fought in the Manchester regiment in WW1,

I cannot find any other information,

There are several John Hodgkinsons born in the Manchester area between 1875 and 1882 (FreeBMD).  Can you narrow down the place, perhaps from the district in which they appear in 1891?  The age on the census is more likely to be accurate than the marriage cert - people often lied, particularly when they were over 40!
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.
