I need help please.

I am after the family of Thomas Austin who is g g grandfather. He was born 8 May 1814 in England but was sent to VDL in 1837 where he died. Two lovely people said he might be from Sherston Magna in Wiltshire but how can I really find out if that  IS where he is from. Dad has died and there is only his brother who is too feeble to remember so I can't rely on family so what would you suggest. I would prefer not to spend money at this stage as I live in Tasmania and the exchange rate for the Aussie dollar is through the roof.

Hi Marette,

You could try posting on the Wiltshire board here on RootsChat; you could also search on www.familysearch.org where you might find some records. Be careful though as some records are extracted from parish records and others are submitted by LDS members.

Are there any early Australian records which might give background details about him?  Where did the exact birthdate information come from?

Thomas Austin birth about 1814 Died 1 March 1868 Launceston Tasmania

Spouse Ann Kelly Marriage 1 May 1846 Cambeltown  Tasmania

Hi Geoff, I think that they got that information from me so it's not much use as I alreadyknew that much, and nanny jan I will do that and I found that on the Convict site so I have the ships they came on and where they married over here and I can get the children but it's the English end I have problems with.
