« on: Sunday 25 February 07 12:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

Not sure where to look but i have had no luck finding them on English census' and from looking at Google it appears they were Scottish!
the name is- George James Dalrymple-Hay he was a Colonel his father was a 'Sir James' he had a brother who was an Admiral, John Charles and George's son was born in 1861 - Harley Hugh.

Any census would be most helpful

Many regards

George James Dalrymple Hay died in Poona, India on 30 August 1881.  I'm not going to find him in Scotland.  He was born there though.

Ooooh thanks little Nell!

I'm getting all confused with this family now! lol quite a few of them from what i have googled!  My Agnes Waters married Harley Hugh in 1891 and Agnes's Niece was also born in Rawal Pindi. I'm now thinking perhaps she was introduced to Harley through her own brother Henry who was a Captain in the army.

Check out the London Gazette entries for the family:

http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk

Also the Dictionary of National Biography at any good reference library.  There are also some entries in the index at:

http://www.fibis.org/

Families of British India.

I have seen your other posts - since George died in India, he is likely to be buried there.

Harley seems to have designed several areas of London, including Regent Street & Picadilly Circus areas:

He also had quite a bit to do with the engineering of parts of the London underground.
And have you seen this:
