Hello Kathleen

You can put a request for a lookup at Mary Lennon's website
http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/index.htm
for the 1907 Belfast Directory.

Go down to where the "Look - Ups" sign is and entry, then you will need to register as a member.

Kathleen,

I've linked the Photo for identification to this one as it is the one getting most of the replies.

Thanks again, Christopher

Since that early post in February, I've found which of my ancestors signed the Covenant and with RC members' help, I've managed to go forward.

I'm still searching for information about the schools my Grandmother and her sister were sent to by their widowed father between 1890 and 1900 in Cavan and/or Belfast.  He was in military and could not take care of them.

Sorry about that previous post. Would you say that they were at a boarding school, Kathleen? Which particular denomination were the Goff family? I'm attempting to recall if the C of I or Presbyterians had schools for both boarders and day pupils. There may even have been a boarding school in Ireland which
was specifically for the children of military personnel.

Christopher,

They were not Catholics, but my mother said that her mother Mary Ellen Goff mentioned that she went to a Catholic boarding school.

That wasn't uncommon, Kathleen.

Even today some members of the Protestant faith send their children to Convent schools which are recognised for their high standard of education. You haven't any photographs of Mary in a school uniform? I've not a clue how many Catholic boarding schools there were in Ireland. If he was stationed in Cavan when Mary first went to school I'd be tempted to say the school may have been in Cavan. That might have allowed her father to see her during term time without having to travel too far.

I've posted a message to a friend, who now lives in London, who originally came from Cavan asking if she might have any ideas about schools in that county.

Christopher, there's no picture of that sort available, so that's as far as that part of my search can go, as there are no searchable lists of enrolment at the schools.

Oh well, I've plenty more to do re my family and will continue.
