Looking for Castlefoaly
« on: Thursday 01 March 07 01:15 GMT (UK) »

I'm trying to discover where Castlefoaly is in County Donegal.

I have a death record dated 1884 for Nancy Culbert and it clearly claims in two locations on the record that she died in Castlefoaly.  The death is registered in the district of Manorcunningham and the Union of Letterkenny.

I believe that Castlefoaly may be somewhere near Glenmaquin in the Raphoe Parish, although Manorcunningham is located in the Raymoghy parish.  My reason for suspected this is that her husband, John Culbert, in listed in the 1857 Griffith's Valuation as living in Glenmaquin.  Furthermore, his death record 5 years later also claims he died in Glenmaquin.

Is there anyone out there who has ever heard of Castlefoaly?

Thank you!
Jennifer

Castlefoaly appears to be an alternative spelling for Castlefolly, which is indeed in the townland of Glenmaquin Lower, civil parish of Raphoe.

Manorcunningham was the Registration District for Raphoe.
