looking through the apprentice records for edinburgh, on scotsfind, i've found one of my ancestors listed as:
david kennoway, son to alexander, with george stirling, chirurgian, 15th oct 1662
what is a chirurgian? ???

boy i am surprised :o
after centuries of farmers, paupers and inmates. it looks like one of them might have had a 'career'.  :)
speaking of inmates, i've got lots of family who emigrated to oz, but i can't find them on any passenger lists. is it possible they didn't go voluntarily? and is there any way to check transportation lists?
