« on: Wednesday 24 November 04 23:14 GMT (UK) »
Would someone please try and find Emma Crowther born abt 1836 Droitwich Worcester. Father name James, Mothers name maybe Sarah.

I am also struggling with John Portman Hartles born Feckenham Worcester 1810, wife Ann, sons James and John.

Any info you could give me would be appreciated

Many Thanks

 :( 1851 Worcs
Droitwich/Droitwich/St Nicholas
Piece 2046 Fol 533

Sch no 61;Friar Street

George Everton,head,m,45,Inn keeper,Droitwich,WOR
+wife and 8 children
Emma Crowther,servant,u,13,Droitwich,WOR

Could that be her? Only Emma there is.

Can you give any more details for John? Do you have him or his sons in any census?

Gardener,

I have John Hartles living at Star Lane Droitwich 1871 with sons John and James, James wife Emma (Crowther) and their Daughter Betsey Ann.

I think that it is the right Emma that you have found, the link being Friar Street from a later census.

Thanks

Can you paste the 1871 entry so that it shows the ages and birthplaces esp of the sons?

Make what you will of this!

Rg9-2111/19
Droitwich/St Andrews
Sch no 216; Star Yard

John Hartles,head,m,60,labourer,Worcestershire,Feckenham
Ann Hartles,wife,m,60,Worcestershire,Martin Hussingtree
Mary Ann Owen,boarder,u,14,Worcestershire,Martin Hussingtree

Rg9-2111/20
Sch no 221;Star Yard

John Hartles,head,u,23,labourer,Worcestershire,Droitwich
Jane Price,lodger,u,25,salt maker,Worcestershire,Droitwich
John Edward Price,son,u,3,Worcestershire,Droitwich
William Henry Price,son,u,9m,Worcestershire,Droitwich

So, I went back to the 1851 census and found the following

Droitwich/St Andrews
Sch no 59;Star Yard

John Hurtles,head,m,53,labourer,Tarddry?,WAR
Ann Hurtles,wife,m,50,WOR
James Hurtles,son,u,23,labourer,Droitwich,WOR
Henry Hurtles,son,u,18,Droitwich,WOR
John Hurtles,son,14,labourer,Droitwich,WOR
Mary Ann Hurtles,dau,12,Droitwich,WOR
Ellen Hurtles,dau,9,Droitwich,WOR
Mary Ann Owen,visitor,4,Droitwich,WOR

Well! I'll wish you good luck with that one :) The 1851 is from a transcription, the 1861 is from the images and was perfectly clear - for once.
