Alfred Butters born Norfolk died Harrogate 1940
« on: Friday 02 March 07 12:17 GMT (UK) »
My husband's greatgrandfather was Alfred Butters, and from talking to my aunt in law, I know he came from Norfolk, was married twice, the second marriage being to Rose Ann Lince in Knaresborough in 1913, the first is either Emily Hardisty or Mary Jane Winter at Knaresborough December 1892 and he died in the Harrogate bombings during 1940, but that's all I can find about him, there appear to be a few Alfred Butters living in Norfolk in the 1881 census, but he doesn't seem to appear living in Yorkshire or Norfolk on the 1891 census with a wife Mary Jane or Emily and he isn't on the 1901 census for Yorkshire either although he must have been in Yorkshire by 1892 for his marriage.

Do you have a d-o-b for him? Either definite (as in got birth cert) or approx - so we can look for birth and then have idea of age and place of birth for looking on censuses?

I had just found that for him in 1881 too and was about to post
Parents Walter and Caroline and a selection of siblings living at Silver Cottage, Besthorpe

And Tati has got him in 1891 now moved up to Yorkshire
