One family, or 2?
« on: Sunday 04 March 07 16:13 GMT (UK) »
Ancestry has put this lot together, but I'm not sure if it's one family or two. Have I missed something obvious?

1851 Census
HO107/1620/156/page 2

James Nash 72        Head
Frances Nash 75     Wife
Frances S Nash 19  Granddaughter
M Y Bagnell 62         Visitor
There are no marks to indicate end of household.

HO107/1620/156/page 3

David Neve 70           Father
Jane Neve 55            Mother
Anne Neve 19           Sister
William Neve 15        Brother
Augustas Neve 25    Nephew
Anne Neve 21           Niece
William Frielande 18  Apprentice
Anne Cook 16            Servant

Now I get confused. If these two lots are one family, David & Jane, given their ages, cannot be the parents of the Head or his wife.
But who are they the parents of, there are no sons or daughters.
Also, Anne & william are very young to be brother & sister to any of the older adults.
Or do I just put it done to the enumerator having a bad day?!
I would be grateful for another opinion please.

Betty

As they have different surnames surely they are two families sharing the same house. Many of my ancestors were sharing an address. I assume that you have checked that it is the same house?
Knight (Nottingham & Hants) Hancock, (Kent) , Hancox (Warwickshire), Linneys (Hants) Brothers (Langford, Beds,East London), Bridgers (East London)

Although there is not mark for end of household it is schedule no.7 on page 2 and no.8 on page 3 so I think the household changes. Bit confusing though.
