Lancashire records in Cheshire
« on: Tuesday 13 March 07 20:45 GMT (UK) »
Some of Manchester now comes under Tameside. Especially Gorton/Openshaw/Denton

On the bmd sites Tameside is under http://cheshirebmd.org.uk/

I had been searching http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/

If your having trouble finding your relatives like i was, take a look at cheshire too!

Best wishes

Pauline - Openshaw & Gorton are not Tameside - they're in the City of Manchester. Besides Denton there's also Ashton-under-Lyne, Audenshaw, Droylsden and Mossley that were Lancashire are now part of Tameside & hence get included on CheshireBMD.

You may not be aware you can do a "multi-region search" on UKBMD (25 year intervals maximum) on all those sites that use the CheshireBMD software (ie includes Lancashire & Cheshire) - handy for those ancestors that move about.

The records for what is now "Tameside" are held at Dukinfield Town Hall which was in Cheshire. They were thus transcribed by the CheshireBMD team.
There are quite a few anomalies in the area which catch out the unwary. an example being that Gorton and Openshaw were in Chorlton up until 1910 & 1896 respectively.

I have been doing family tree research for nearly 10 years so im not a novice but.....

I have been having trouble with Manchester and the sub-districts. Sometimes it even depends on what side of the street you lived as to what area you belonged. There is even a building ( so my cousin tells me) If you use the front door its one district, if you use the back its another and if you go out the side door it another district entirely.

I was born Crumpsall but lived in Gorton and i have lots of family registered at Manchester but also im now finding stuff at Ashton , which is Tameside and now under Cheshire. There is also lots who were born in Gorton or Openshaw  but registered at Ashton?

My mother was living in Droylesden and her death certificate says Tameside.

Im now checking both Lancashire and Cheshire, that way i'll not miss anyone.

Best wishes
