Hello Scouse

I wonder if this might be your family in the 1871?

RG10/3815 West Derby, Toxteth Park; Folio 127

Devonshire Place, 3 Sefton Terrace, Everton

Alfred SMITH aged 51 Head Shipwright born Lancs. Liverpool
Alfred SMITH aged 5 Son born Lancs. Liverpool
Amy Jane SMITH aged 5 Daughter months born Lancs. Liverpool
Elizabeth SMITH aged 40  Wife born Lancs. Liverpool
Elizabeth SMITH aged 7 Daughter born Lancs Liverpool
Joseph James SMITH aged 2 Son born Lancs Liverpool

There were 3 or 4 possibilities for your Alfred Smith in the 1871 for Liverpool and Birkenhead, but.....

I took a look at the 1891 census and noticed immediately above your Alfred's family another family of Smiths, headed by Joseph J. Smith(aged 22).  (Could this be the same one listed above on the 1871 and therefore Alfred's brother?

The remainder of Joseph's family in 1891 were Alice H (Wife), Ann J (daughter), Elizabeth (Mother - a widow, aged 60), Elizabeth (Sister - aged 27) and Edith (Niece).
It all seems to fit.

Hoping that this is of some help

Best wishes
Dorothy

Hi Dorothy.

All the info you sent was right for,Joseph J Smith.
But it was not the one I needed.

It is definately Alfred Smith.
and no, I do not think they were related.

Thank you for the time & effort you put in.
It is really appreciated
