Could sks please look for Frederick Wakelin/g bc 1833 Oxfordshire?

I have him on 1871/81 in London.   1871 the place is dificult to read; Looks like B*****ll, Oxfordshire and 1881 just gives Oxford.

Hi Bluie,

Thanks for looking but I don't think that's my man.  I've just got Frederick's marriage certificate and his father is shown as William, a gentleman's servant (?), (the writing is very poor and faded)  and the surname on that is Wakeling.

Hi Nanny - do you want to give us the reference for the 1871 census and I'll have a look and see if I can work anything out - sometime two pairs of eyes are better than one   ;)

Still looking for Frederick, bc 1833, Bucknell, with father William.

1861 census Fred is married and the piece showing him and wife is missing; have him 1871 onwards but would like 1841/1851.

Hi Nanny

Sorry we're not ignoring you, I just can't find him in those years, however I have dug up a few clues as to why not (I think)

From the IGI
FREDERICK DAVIS   Christening:  08 OCT 1833   Bucknell, Oxford, England
  Father:  WILLIAM DAVIS
  Mother:  SUSANNAH WAKENELL

From the IGI
SUSANNAH WAKELING   Christening:  23 AUG 1812   Bucknell, Oxford, England
  Father:  THOS WAKELING  Family
  Mother:  CATHARINE

I still can't actually find Frederick (or Susannah) in the 41 & 51 census
but there is a very good candidate for William Davis at the Manor House in Bucknell
he is a 40 year SINGLE servant born Bicester

Hope this helps a bit

Thanks DebbieG, this line is proving troublesome...so many couples who do not marry.

I think you have managed to unearth my Fred at last; he named his first child Catherine......and she did not marry her "husband" either.

Many thanks,
