Does anyone recognise the location of this family group? By the costumes could it be pre or post WW1?

The ladies clothes look Edwardian to me, so I would say post WW1  as they appear to be standing in front of a war memorial.


The writing on it looks like       RMOUTH  ???

My thought on this was that it was prewar, or early 1914ish, as the boys born 1908 and 1910 would be too small for post war, also their Dad didn't have his sergeant's stripes in the picture. But I really wanted to gather up some other opinions, as to the date of the costume.
I get the feeling that the memorial might have been at Yarmouth, and that it's maybe Boer War. On the stone, the vaguely seen head seems to be the early Victoria? So it might not be a ww1 memorial at all, maybe a horse trough or even a drinking fountain.
As I would really be pleased to know if it's still there...wherever...is there anyone say in Yarmouth could tell me yea or nay???? ;D

Don't know the location but I would make a stab and would suggest that they are standing in front of a drinking fountain/ water trough which is commemorating Queen Victoria's Jubilee of 1887. You can make out the figures 837 on it.

Do you know which regiment he was in or where the/he family came from as this may point you towards the location of where the photograph was taken.

The family were West Hammers and Dad was in the Essex Regiment. Don't thi
nk that's any help at all, although I shall run it past Newham Archives and Local Studies who have been helpful for other queries.
I'm tending to agree with the idea of a drinking fountain for the Jubilee, thanks! My eyesight wasn't good enough to spot the date until you mentioned it.   ;)

Well thats definately an Essex regt cap badge.

The uniform tunic would be very early war as it has the shoulder patches and pleats to the pockets. These went out the window as the new army of 1914/5 surged, and the uniforms ran out....Along with the cloth!

After all this time, I've finally had confirmation from a relative that the picture was taken in 1914. It IS the Queen Victoria Memorial at Great Yarmouth.
