Hi,

Im looking for information on James McGilvray (my great *3 Grandfather)
All I know is he was born in Kirkcaldy, Fyfeshire on 19 September 1849.

Would appreciate any help in finding out who his parents are and if he had brothers and sisters!!

JAMES MC GILLIVRAY 
Birth:  19 SEP 1849   Abbotshall, Fife, Scotland
 
 Parents:
  Father:  JOHN MC GILLIVRAY  Family
  Mother:  AGNES KAY 
Their Marriage  - 13 JUL 1840   Dysart, Fife, Scotland (spelt KEAY)
Andrew, Donald (Wester Highlands), Muckersie (Perth), Symon(s) (Dundee)

You've gotten further than I have and I've been try to track down this information for the last 3 months!

I'm new at doing this I found most of the Australian Informatio quite easily but whats the best way to check the information for over in Scotland and to even find the info in the first place?

I found this on www.familysearch.org which is the site run by the Church of the Latter Day Saints.

Also if you want copies of certificates, www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, a pay per view site is well worth using.

Being a canny Scot, I use the free familysearch site to narrow down or locate the relatives and then pay on scotlandspeople to get a copy of the actual certificate which can provide additional information.
