Columbo Island of ceylon

 Could anyone please advise. I have a George McEachran, who on the family headstone it says, In memory of George McEachran who
   died Columbo, Island of Ceylon. 26th March ,1870.

How can I find out more about his death. I presume he was a soldier there.
