Looking for relatives or information on George MACKIE, my husband's lost cousin who moved from Belfast(Bentink Street) to Dublin in the 1940s.  He was in engineering.  We are trying to build the family tree.  George's mother was Matilda (Tillie) McCormick and his father was David Mackie.  Rosemary Joan

Hello Rosemary Joan,

I wonder if the company in which George Mackie was an engineer in Belfast had a branch in Dublin? It seems a strange move to me unless he moved after 1945 as I'd have thought Belfast needed every engineer available during the war years.

It could have been after 1945 when George moved.  He was a good bit older than my husband and the family weren't very forthcoming with information about relations - more's the pity!!  We live in hope that this correspondence will ring a bell in Dublin.  Regards, RosemaryJoan

Have you tried one of the Dublin papers? A letter to the Editor of the Irish Independent, Sunday Independent or Evening Herald may produce a result. I'd tend to opt for the evening paper. www.independent.ie/service/contact-us-24070.html

I was speaking to a friend a few days ago and he made precisely the same comment ... "the family weren't very forthcoming with information about relations." I've posted a message on this board in the hope that his missing relative appears. I think in his case
the guy was a cousin of his Dad.

If George was well known in the engineering field in Dublin he may have belonged to a trade association.

I found his death and burial in Dublin, so unless some of his family get in touch I think I can leave it. Have you any connection Pammr?
