SEMLEY WW1 Roll of Honour in church
« on: Friday 23 March 07 19:45 GMT (UK) »
There is a WW1 Roll of Honour in St. Leonard's Church Semley.  On this is a W. Smith Gen Royal Field Artillery but no service number.  Does anyone know how I can find out the service number?  I believe W. Smith may have been my grandfather's brother - William.

Thanks.  Jan

Hello again

Have you looked on the Commonwealth graves web site (if he was a war time casualty). Do you know the year he died as there were over 1800 W Smiths that died in WW1.

Hey, thanks for that.  My William didn't die in the War, he died after the war in 1920 aged just 30.  This is why I think he may have served in the war ... and died perhaps of injuries.

Not sure if this helps but the CWGC records the deaths in service of those who died between 4 August 1914 and 31 August 1921.  There is one W Smith, Royal Field Artillery, recorded for 1920?
