Hi Barbara

How old was your grandmother when she married?   Does it fit with the photo?

Hi Nanny Jan

Nellie was born in 1889, so that would have made her 22/23 ish if this is her in 1912.

Hi Barbara,

Hmm.....could be her then but I'm puzzled by the long hair, lack of veil and lack of groom!

Were "solo" photos taken of brides then?

Going off on a tangent; was it a church or register office wedding?  Perhaps a less formal outfit for the register office?

Hmm....could that be a high waist to the dress; to hide any signs.

This is a beautiful photo! It has a few age spots, though...if you could rescan it as high as possible (600 dpi is best) and post it on the Photo Restoration board, someone will be able to tidy it up. If 72 dpi is the best you can do, post it there anyway! No shortage of restorers waiting to have a play with such a lovely pic.

Cheers,

I'm inclined to say the photo looks more like the 1920s.  I have 1910 wedding photos of my G Grandparents.  The bride has her hair up and a floor length dress.  I agree with Prue about the shoes - I think they look more like 1920s.  I have a photo of another great grandmother wearing similar shoes and the photo is definitely 1920s.

Barbara, any other family members get married around 1920?

Yes it looks very like a wedding dress to me - she's holding a small bouquet or posy too.  What a lovely picture.
