The prices are low in Gainsborough, and if Trent St is where I'm thinking then it's in a less desireable part of Gainsborough. I grew up in Gains, uphills, this is down the hills. I think the Victorian Terraces are lovely, but due to a lack of amenities and development Gainsborough has lost some of the lustre it had as a thriving port and railway/manufacturing town.
If you do visit (which I'd recommend!) then you should not just visit the Victorian Terraces. There's a fabulous manor house (Old Hall) overlooked by some more fantastic Victorian and Edwardian houses. The town used to be big on brewing beer and agricultural machines (at least two of my grandfathers worked at Marshalls (now a Tesco) which was a big industry until past WW2)
Anyway, I could go on. My mum is a mine of local history, so I ask her all the time!
Good luck finding the house.
Hi
Thanks for the info on Gainsborough
I did get a good idea they were still the same properties from Annies message
If I were to visit, It would only be to see my Grandparntes home
So there is no point if it is as bad as you say.
Its like here in Liverpool.
The properite that were left inToxteth are really well built lovley old houses
But I woulod not advise anyone to stop off and view them
Its a pity these area turn into such no go estates, even sometimes for Liverpool people
A sign of the times eh
Thanks though just the same
