where do I start?
« on: Sunday 28 November 04 12:08 GMT (UK) »
I am searching on behalf of a cousin ,who is researching her grandparents, sadly as she was seperated from her father as a baby, and he was a Canadian, she has to rely on family memory for her facts.                                       Her grandmother was called Harriet Murrell,    she was born in Wexford in Ireland between 1880-90,her grandfather was called William Russell born around the same time in Orkney Scotland, they married in Edingborough, and then emigrated to Montreal,Canada.               Iwould be really grateful for some tips on how to get started,Regards Bethan

You could try the Scotlandspeople website for the marriage record.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

Hi Bethan

Does your cousin have her father's birth, marriage certificates etc.?  If not I would suggest them as a starting point.

If you are sure about the places of birth of Harriet and William I suggest you post a request about each of them on the Ireland and Scotland Boards respectively - in the relevant county in each case.  I am sure someone will be able to help.

Good luck and best wishes
