MCBRIDE/STEEL marriage 1884 Ballymena
« on: Friday 29 December 06 13:25 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me locate my g grandparent's marriage?

They were DAVID MCBRIDE and MARGARET STEEL. The only thing that I have to go on is their marriage mentioned on my grandmother's birth entry. It states  "July 15th 1884 Ballymena Ireland"
After marrying David and Margaret moved to Scotland where they had and raised their family.
Any help is much appreciated.

Hello.

Just noticed your post. With the details you have, you can apply directly to the Ballymena Registrars office for a copy certificate - I will PM you a direct email addy for you to check current prices etc. You could also order a transcript via Family Ulster - will include details in the PM.

Hi Gail,

here is the information you can use to put down on your application for their marriage certificate.

They were married in the Ballymena Registrars Office in the parish of Kirkinriola, Ballymena, Co Antrim.

On the date of 13 July 1883.

A wee note: on this marriage record, Steel was spelt as STEELE.

Cheers,

Tees

Hello.
I would be grateful if someone could help me locate the marriage of my ggrandparents. Their names are DAVID MCBRIDE AND MARGARET STEELE.
According to a handwritten birth entry for my grandmother, David and Margaret were married in Ballymena,13th July,1884. I have had a response on these pages, from Tees(thanks for that) that this may, in fact, have been 13th July, 1883.
I have reason to believe that the marriage may have taken place in Ballymena Registery Office,Parish of Kirkinriola, Ballymena, County Antrim.
If anyone can clarify these details, and let me know how that I may purchase such information, I would be most grateful. As I live in Scotland, I do not know where records, etc would be available.
       Thanks for reading this.

Hi Gail!

Quite pleased you are glad with my finding. Sometimes marriage date may be a bit off on Scottish birth entries.

As to obtaining the certificate, you have TWO options:

1) www.groireland.ie -- you are to fill out the application form and post it in. Be sure to ask for a photocopy of entry as it will only cost you 6 euros versus certified copy for 10 euros. It will be about 3 to 4 weeks before you get it in your mailbox!

2) www.groni.gov.uk  --you can apply for the certificate online and it will cost you 11 pounds. You will get a certified copy of the entry within 7 days or so (no photocopy).

If you want to save a bit of money, you can put a wee request with www.familyulster.com to look up in 1883 Marriage Indexes to get a reference number then post the paper version of application off to the Belfast GRO. They won't do it online, do not know why. Anyway, it will cost you 5.50 pounds.

You can always go to www.ancestryireland.com and get a transcription of this entry and hopefully, a church marriage record at the same time for 6 pounds.

Hope it is not too complicated for you!!

Once again, it is my pleasure to help you out a bit!

Regards,

Tees

Hi Gail,

Sometimes the couple "forget" the accurate date of their marriage when registering the child's birth. I have one child born in Scotland with a slightly wrong date of marriage. All the details matched up.

I had double-checked the database where I get this marriage registration information--it is clear as a day--it stated exactly what I stated in my previous posting to you.

If you still doubt this information, check with the GROs in Belfast, NI or Roscommon, Ireland--they will confirm which marriage date is correct or not.

Kind regards,

Tees
