Woodbury Births please
« on: Monday 26 March 07 19:18 BST (UK) »
Looking to trace the children of John/william Woodbury who married Caroline Harriet Northam J/F/M 1902 Tiverton. caroline was born in Dec 1882, Yarcombe Devon. They had several children including Douglas Victor Woodbury b 1917 Tiverton, died 2003, Exeter Devon. I think John Woodbury was B 1862, Uplowman devon but can`t be sure. Would like to know if douglas had any siblings.
Regards, Nicola

Dear Nicola
I would start by looking at the England & Wales BMD Index on Ancestry.co.uk which is free to use. From Qtr2 1911 and onwards the mothers maiden name was also recorded - so you need to look at each qtr and year from Qtr 2 1911 looking at the Woodbury surname with mother's maiden name recorded as Northam probably at Tiverton.  I have just looked up Douglas and he is there on Qtr 3 1917 registered at Tiverton with mothers maiden name given as Northam.  Children often came every other year or maybe every year.  If Caroline was born in 1882 then she could have been having children up to about 45 years of age. ie up to about 1927 time ? For any children born before Qtr2 1911 the maiden name is not given but you could look at Woodbury births at Tiverton anyway as Woodbury seems to be a fairly uncommon name. At least this would give you a starting point. If you get stuck -let me know. Do you have any census info for Caroline or John for 1901 or previous?

Continued .......
Also, if John & Caroline married in 1902 - the first child often came quite soon afterwards - sometimes later in the year of marriage or often in the next year i.e. 1903.  But I would start in 1911 first where you may have more success as the mother's maiden name is shown.
