Claire, you could try the following websites.  It's a bit difficult without knowing some dates and the area you are interested in.

1901 Leitrim Roscommon has a fully transcribed index for Mayo: http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/1901census/census.shtml
there is a 9 year old boy Dominick listed on this census.  Could that be him?

Griffiths Valuation which was a land valuation around 1850s has an index at :
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php

Hope this is of some help to you.
Dee

I have several Dominic or Dominick LEYDENs in my tree.  My father was Dominic, his grandfather was Dominic, and his GGrandfather was Dominick.  As far as I know, my Leydens originate from Ahamlish in Sligo, but there are several spelling variations of the name:  Leyden, Leydon, Lydon, Layden, Leaden.  Back then people were relying on the priest or the registrar of births etc. to be able to spell (which often they couldn't) :)
