Hi Jim,

Do you know the denomination of the Barnwell family?

William Barnwell, Drumaclan, Kilmore. Monaghan. The Valuation took place in the county 1858-60.

I suspect, but cannot prove, that the William Barnwell at Drumaclan did end up in County Durham but in Jarrow not Bishop Auckland.  He arrived somewhere after 1861 and before 1869.

The one in Jarrow had a sister called Catherine who married a Patrick Maguire and their first known son was born at Kilmore on 12 February 1864.

All the known brothers and sisters were Catholic and ended up on Tyneside.  There is a rather tenuous link in the 1950's to Bishop Auckland, but this would appear to be coincidental.  No dates of birth or christenings are known for any of them.

Their parents were Samuel Barnwell (in the army and dead sometime before 20 October 1856) and Catherine Milligan who also ended up in Jarrow by 1871.  Nothing else is known about them.

I assume you are looking for the one that was married to Margaret Macnamee and lived in Bishop Auckland.

Richard;
             Thank You for this information.I had been wondering if the Barnwell's in Jarrow/Durham were related to the Barnwell's in Bishop Auckland.
               I believe the Bishop Auckland family is my family.I cannot get further back than Bishop Auckland via birth certificates-yet cencuc says William and Margaret were from Ireland.
                                Thank You Again !

Jim

There is another group by the name BARNWELL in County Durham based in South Shields.  These are apparently unrelated to either of the two groups we are looking at and appear to come from Yorkshire.

Richard;
              I have noticed that family on the 1881 census and through freebmd.
I have ordered all the birth certificates for my Great grandfather and his brothers and sisters.It seems to me that my GG grandfather had at least one brother marry in Bishop Auckland as well as two sisters.I think my GGG grandmother may of died in B.A.,too.
               The family at Condon Grange are related,too.Im not sure where some of my great grandfathers younger brothers moved to after 1901.
                Do you know if your William  had any grandsons in the Durham Light Infantry during WW1?
                         Thanks

While searching for relatives named CONDON in Bishop Auckland, I found your thread.

Bishop Auckland has a Coundon Grange, not a Condon Grange.
