looking for a Daisy Watson...
« on: Tuesday 03 April 07 21:25 BST (UK) »
Hi there im on a mission looking for my Grandma's sister. All i know about her is that she was Daisy Watson and she was born in Grantham Lincolnshire between the years of about 1913 to 1930.   My grandma died recently and she was confused so unable to tell me much about her all i was told is that she died quite young. Saying that i have been given a photo of her and she looks about 18 - 20 yrs old.  It has also been mentioned that she died at Skegness as my grandma took one of my uncles there when he was younger but he cant remember much about the visit to the grave. There is a ? if she married a man called Tommy but im unsure where they married or if Tommy was Thomas etc.   Is there any where i can be looking to see if i can find her or can anyone tell me if i can find out where she is buried in Skegness so i can go to her grave. Many thanks if you can help me.
Heather

Hi Heather
You can search all the BMDs free on www.ancestry.co.uk   Choose the complete version - the link is on the first page if you scroll down on the right hand side.  Do you know Daisy's mother's maiden name?    If so, you can look through the births and find one with the right maiden name against it and then you will at least know when and where she was born.  Remember that Daisy may be a pet name - she might be Margaret for instance.
If you are not sure if she married then looking for her death is going to be much more difficult.
You could try writing to the cemeteries in Skegness or to the local register office but it really will be needle in haystack time.  How old was your uncle when he went to the grave?  That gives a cut off time.
You could look for possible marriages on ancestry too.  Is anyone in the family likely to have left wills that might mention her?    A long task ahead I'm afraid.
Andrea

Thank you for your reply. I have asked my uncle how old he was and he was not helpfull really. I think i will go through the website you mentioned and see what i can come up with.  My grandma's maiden name was Watson.  I think you are right it is going to be a nightmare to trace but i feel i ought to give it a go as i have put it off time and time again! About the wills to be honest there are not many left of the family to ask and who is about does not know anything unless im going into things that is a bit hush hush ??? and they dont want to say anything.  Oh well here goes th elong old slug ahead!!!
Thank you once again Heaher x :)

Checked 1936-1946 for a marriage for a Daisy B Watson - no marriages for any Daisy in Lincolnshire and the only Daisy B was married in Biggleswade to a Stanley.

Thank you for your help!  I have got the info for her birth and have now ordered her certificate. i was told she died aged 21 but i have been through the index's and there is nothing. I think i have now hit the end on this search as i dont know anywhere else to look if there is anywhere!
thanks again Heather

Well done Emsworthy!    As regards family not wanting to talk it might be worth producing a tree as far as you can and showing it to them.  If they are anything like my ancient relatives they love to be able to say "oh but that's wrong her married name was x" or "Fred died after the war" etc
Good luck
Andrea
